Christags-Geschenk für kleine Knaben [Christmas Gift for Little Boys].
- imprint_number: 1809.063
- title: Ein Christags-Geschenk für kleine Knaben; oder Eine Sammlung von verschiedenen Unterredungen. Das 3te Virginische Kinderbuch.
- sequence_number: 63
- year: 1809
- place_issued: New Market
- issuing_press: Henkel Press
- author: -----
- notes: Preface is dated: "Neumarket: den 3ten September, 1809" [New Market: the 3rd September, 1809]. Imprint reports: "Gedruckt für Salomon Henkel" [Printed for Solomon Henkel], while the colophon on pg. 36 states: "Andreas N. Henkel, Drucker: Neumarket" [Andrew N. Henkel, Printer, New Market].
This combination marks this title as the first Henkel Press production employing the trade craft of Andrew Henkel, whose engravings adorns this children's book (he had been sent to Philadelphia in 1808 to learn engraving, returning to New Market shortly before this issued); this item also provides an initial date for Solomon Henkel as retailer of Henkel Press imprints at his New Market apothecary store; despite this new trade alliance, their brother Ambrose Henkel continued as the manager of the family's press until about 1815.
