• notes: Petition here was evidently part of a concerted effort to expand the capitalization of the Bank of Virginia sufficient for creating a branch of that bank at Lynchburg; this petition was accompanied by like ones from the merchants there (1810.096), and from residents in 22 nearby counties (1810.094); primary problem was that the bank's charter allowed only its current shareholders to make such decisions, so request entailed altering the bank's charter; as a result, this effort failed for want of support among the bank's friends in the Assembly
  Only known copy, held by the Library of Virginia, is mutilated with loss of text at top of page; bulk of text is identical to the other petitions, with loss occurring where "Star-Office" imprint was located; hence item likely printed by James Graham as well, so the attribution here.
