Christian Catechism, Composed for the Instruction of Youth.
- imprint_number: 1811.087
- title: The Christian catechism, composed for the instruction of youth in the knowledge of the Christian religion. Together with morning & evening hymns, prayers, &c. By Paul Henkel, Minister of the Gospel. Second edition
- sequence_number: 87
- year: 1811
- place_issued: New Market
- issuing_press: Ambrose Henkel
- author: Henkel, Paul (1754-1825).
- notes: In a prefatory "Address to all Christian parents," [p. 3-4], Henkel reports that this work was drawn from Martin Luther's Small Catechism (1529), though it does not conform strictly to the doctrines therein; that description fits Henkel's concurrent German-language adaptation of that work, Der Christliche Catechismus (1811.086), so indicating that this item was largely an English-language translation of that title. His address is dated in print on April 1, 1811, so indicating that this title preceded a German-language version, Der Christliche Catechismus., dated October 1st. This item may have itself been preceded by his First Chief Head of the Christian Catechism (1811.088), which restates the first of five principals discussed herein.
Both language variants are juvenile adaptations of Kleine Catechismus des Martin Luthers (1809.067 & 1811.085), itself a Henkel adaptation of Luther's Small Catechism of 1529.
