Letter of Deputy Adjutant General Covering Militia Organization Table.
- imprint_number: 1812.047
- title: [Letter of the deputy adjutant general accompanying the “organization of the militia”].
- sequence_number: 47
- year: 1812
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Samuel Pleasants
- author: Virginia. Office of Adjutant General.
- notes: No copy known extant; Swem recorded title from a payment made to Pleasants on July 1, 1812, for printing copies of this letter, which was a cover for a new table of organization for the Virginia militia (1812.046).
An uncredited entry in the WorldCat system appears to show a photostatic copy of the two elements as one larger item with the title: The organization of the militia of Virginia, into division, brigades, and regiments, in pursuance of the act "to reduce into one, the several acts of the General Assembly for regulating the militia of this commonwealth", passed the 28th of January, 1804, with the names of the general field officers, and the dates of their commis-sions. (OCLC no. 15105201). Similarly, the Virginia Historical Society holds a photo-copy of a four-page imprint with the title: Richmond, June 26, 1812. I have thought proper for the purpose of giving information to all concerned to have published the following organization of the militia of this commonwealth (VHS no. 244693), that appears to be the cover letter.
This Index presumes each of those titles as being the two recorded by Swem; but for reasons of clarity, the titles Swem supplied are entered here, rather than use the alternative ones.
