Petition seeking Chancery District Court at Lynchburg.
- imprint_number: 1813.106
- title: To the honorable, the Speaker, and Members of both Houses ... petition ...
- sequence_number: 106
- year: 1813
- place_issued: Lynchburg
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Citizens in the Richmond Chancery District.
- notes: Sheet lacks colophon; several petitions on this topic were received by the House of Delegates on December 12, 1813 (from Amherst, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Nelson, Patrick, & Pittsylvania counties); Hummel recorded just one petition from this group, but did not identify petitioners' residence; as focus here is on Lynchburg, this broadside almost certainly issued there, but the press cannot be identified.
In this session of the Assembly, a deluge of similar petitions, echoing floods unleashed in the previous two sessions, finally impelled a division of the Williamsburg & Richmond chancery-courts into four districts, with the addition of new courts at Fredericksburg & Lynchburg (see Chap. XVI of Acts of December 1813 Assembly).
