- title: A plain elementary explanation, of the nature and cure of disease, predicated upon facts and experience; presenting a view of that train of thinking which led to the invention of the patent, portable, warm and hot bath. By Samuel K. Jennings.
- sequence_number: 27
- year: 1814
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Ritchie & Trueheart
- author: Jennings, Samuel Kennedy (1771-1854).
- notes: The multifaceted Jennings was then editor of the Lynchburg Press, as well as a practicing physician and a lay preacher in the Methodist Church there; his commitment to this newly patented treatment regime led him to abandon Lynchburg for Norfolk in 1815, and then on to Baltimore in 1817, where he became a founder of the Washington Medical College there.
The choice of a Richmond publisher for this essay suggests Jennings was intent on tapping into the bookselling networks that converged in the capital and so find investors in his bath.
