• notes: Smith was an itinerant Baptist minister who had taken a land grant in Upper Canada in 1808, but who was then driven from that British territory for his American loyalism at the start of the War of 1812; this work was an autobiographical narrative of his escape from Canada with his young family and their subsequent travails, published to earn the income needed to sustain his family; after the war, he moved on to the west and south intending to publish accounts of Baptist revivals that never materialized.
  This title was issued from the press of Samuel Pleasants shortly before that printer died on October 4, 1814, making it the last substantial non-government imprint that he produced in a four-decade career in the printing trade
