Paradise was an Alexandria schoolmaster who conducted a small bookstore on the side, while also serving as pastor of Alexandria's Baptist Church (today First Baptist); this title was his sole venture as a publisher, the first American edition of a long treatise by the late British Baptist preacher Robert Hall; originally published in 1781, this edition was apparently taken from the 1807 London one, and printed for Paradise by Rakestraw, also a Baptist adherent.
