To the Militia Officers of Virginia.
- imprint_number: 1814.102
- title: To the militia officers of Virginia ... A Militia Officer.
- sequence_number: 102
- year: 1814
- place_issued: Virginia
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: A Militia Officer.
- notes: An address in verse designed to rouse the patriotic fervor of the state's militia leaders.
Only known copy is in the papers of John Hartwell Cocke of Bremo held by the University of Virginia; that sheet lacks colophon; Hummel suggested 1813 as date of issue, but item itself argues against that; verso has a manuscript note to "General Cocke" from the author, who used the initials "H.P." Cocke (1780-1866) was commander of the militia in Fluvanna County when the War of 1812 began; he was raised to the rank of brigadier general in January 1814, so the date reported here; text does not suggest an origin, so the indeterminacy here.
