Thomas Ritchie became printer to the Commonwealth on January 1, 1815, when the brief license granted to Deborah W. L. Pleasants expired; she had assumed the formal title on the death of her husband, Samuel Pleasants, in October, six days before this session opened; but as of January 1st, that title fell to Ritchie, printer to the Senate, with his protégé, Thomas Burling, taking on his old assignment.
