- imprint_number: 1816.044
- title: [General orders of the adjutant general of the 8th of June].
- sequence_number: 44
- year: 1816
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Ritchie, Trueheart, and DuVal
- author: Gooch, Claiborne Watts (1788-1844), adjutant general.
- notes: No copy known extant; as public printer, Ritchie was ordered to print 600 copies of these militia orders; Swem thus attributed the title to the press of Ritchie & Trueheart; however, that concern became Ritchie, Trueheart, and DuVal about six week before this circular letter was published, so the attribution here.
Gooch was elected adjutant general by the December 1815 Assembly, succeeding Moses Green of Culpeper County; he served in this post until spring 1821, when he was compelled to resign the office as a result of having become during 1820 both a director of the Farmers' Bank of Virginia and a partner in the Richmond Enquirer with Ritchie, a marriage relation.
