- imprint_number: 1816.065
- title: A New Year’s gift: Alexandria, January 1st, 1816 ... W. H. Wilmer.
- sequence_number: 65
- year: 1816
- place_issued: Alexandria
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Wilmer, William Holland (1782-1827).
- notes: Wilmer was rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria from 1812 to 1826, when he was called to be the eleventh president of the College of William and Mary and the rector of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg; while in Alexandria, Wilmer was a central figure in the port's civic life, whose orations and sermons were often published; this item was latest in series of New Year's addresses issued after 1813 before starting a religious journal in 1819.
Only known copy is held in the special collections department of the University of Virginia; their catalogue dates this item to 1815, when it was apparently printed; nevertheless, it is entered here under the date of its issue, as is the practice in this Index; sheet lacks colophon; with several Alexandria presses printing for Wilmer, an attribution cannot be made here.
