• notes: One of fourteen such petitions presented to the Assembly from Berkeley, Giles, Hardy, Henry, Hampshire, Jefferson, Nelson, Pittsylvania, Prince William, Randolph, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Washington, Wood counties on November 18, 1816, all in support of the Memorial of the Staunton Convention (1816.133). All of those items are held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia.
  Sheet lacks colophon; that convention offered a common language for such petitions, with four printed versions presented that followed that form (this item, 1816.137, 1816.139, 1816.140); only the last of those petitions was printed with a county name in place of the blank seen in the other three (Washington), so leaving origins of the others unclear (not seen by this researcher, and not recorded by Hummel). The counties recorded suggest origins in four locations: Charlestown, New Market, Harrisonburg, and Martinsburg; thus assigning any one of those four to these three would be speculative at best, and likely incorrect, without other evidence, so the indeterminacy here.
