- notes: Dated just two weeks after the closing of the Fourteenth Congress, Garnett announced his candidacy for the seat held by William H. Roane, who had declined reelection to take a seat on Virginia's Council of State; the Madisonian Republican Garnett defeated Edwin Upshaw, a dissident Quid, in a race where Roane's Caroline County constituents gave him more votes than winner Garnett, despite his retirement; Garnet served in Congress until March 1827.
Sheet lacks colophon; copy held by the American Antiquarian Society, and filmed by the Early American Imprints Series, has a Fredericksburg postmark for May 11, 1817; as a result, title is generally attributed to the sole press then operating there, that of William Fairfax Gray.
