Petition asking Repeal of Provisions on Reports from County-Courts.
- imprint_number: 1817.114
- title: To the honorable the General Assembly ... the petition of ... inhabitants of the county of [blank] ...
- sequence_number: 114
- year: 1817
- place_issued: Lynchburg
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Inhabitants of Bedford County
- notes: Petitioners sought repeal of statute provisions requiring the county-court clerks to provide copies of all written items put into the official record of their court to the state's General Court, regardless of whether the item was potentially an appellate issue or not. Although this Assembly session made numerous changes in the responsibilities of clerks in all of Virginia courts, this request was not one of the legislated changes.
Only known copy, held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, lacks colophon; that copy has manuscript completions of its blanks in name of Bedford County, dated December 12, 1817; that locale indicates a Lynchburg origin for this item; however, a clear attribution to one of the two presses operating there then is impracticable without further evidence, so the indeterminacy here.
