Petition seeking Charter for a Richmond East India Company.
- imprint_number: 1817.118
- title: To the General Assembly ... petition ... citizens of Richmond, Manchester ...
- sequence_number: 118
- year: 1817
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Citizens of Richmond, Manchester, & Other Parts of the State of Virginia
- notes: Only known copy, held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, is dated in manuscript on December 30, 1817, the date it was received by the House; petitioners wrote in support of chartering a company ("The Richmond East India Company") to trade with foreign ports east of the Cape of Good Hope; the Assembly declined this request.
Sheet lacks colophon; context clearly indicates a Richmond origin; however, the multiplicity of presses operating there then make an attribution impracticable without further evidence, so the indeterminacy here.
