- notes: Only known copy is held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia; item is dated January 9, 1818, the date it was submitted to the Assembly by Gov. James Preston; report is signed in print by the principal engineer, Loammi Baldwin [Jr.] (1780-1838), the Bostonian who served in that role from 1817 to 1820, before building canals and dry-docks (including that in the Norfolk Navy Yard) throughout the eastern seaboard in the years thereafter. Content note in LVA catalog states that report "provides a list of the number of stock in the fund for internal improvement, correspondence, resolutions, accounts, etc., respecting the Dismal Swamp Canal Company, the Little River Turnpike Company, the Appomattox Canal Company, the Potomac Canal Company, and the James River Canal Company."
Imprint states: "Printed by Thomas Ritchie, printer to the commonwealth, 1818." As Ritchie was a printer in title only, this title is attributed to partnership then conducting his press; he was ordered to print 250 copies for the use of the Assembly..
