- notes: The "Protestant Minister" addressed was John Johnston (1750-1823), pastor of Presbyterian church at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Gallitzin, a Russian Catholic immigrant, had established the first Catholic parish in the Alleghenies about 1799; this pamphlet, first published in 1816 in Pittsburgh, was his response to an anti-Catholic sermon delivered by Johnston on the day of fasting and humiliation decreed by President Madison at the end of the War of 1812.
