- imprint_number: 1818.126
- title: To the Legislature ... inhabitants of certain portions of Wood, Harrison, & Lewis counties …
- sequence_number: 126
- year: 1818
- place_issued: Clarksburg
- issuing_press: Gideon Butler
- author: inhabitants of certain portions of Wood, Harrison and Lewis Counties.
- notes: One of several petitions presented to the Assembly on December 14, 1818 asking that a new county be formed from those parts of the named counties adjacent to the Hughes River, a tributary of the Little Kanawha River (today, the area described comprises much of Ritchie County, created in 1843); a counter-petition (in manuscript) was entered in opposition to the request that same day, leading the Assembly to defer any action on the division petition.
Sheet lacks colophon; as the only press then operating in the three counties mentioned, this item likely issued from the press of Gideon Butler there, so the attribution here.
