- notes: One in a continuing series of complaints against the James River Company, which had been formed in 1784 to clear obstructions to navigation of the river above Richmond and build a canal system around the falls at Richmond; petitioners here asked Assembly to add new conditions to company's charter, as well as penalties for tardy performance; these ongoing complaints led to a reorganization of the company by the ensuing Assembly, although this petition was laid aside as discussions over the company's fate continued.
Sheet lacks colophon; locus of the petitioners marks this clearly as a Lynchburg imprint; at this time the only press then operating there was that of Jacob Hass & Samuel G. Dawson, so the attribution here.
