Petition seeking Improved Navigation of Chickahominy River.
- imprint_number: 1818.134
- title: At a meeting of the owners of lands on Chickahominy River ... on the second Saturday in June 1818 ... petition ... to the ... General Assembly ...
- sequence_number: 134
- year: 1818
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Citizens of Richmond and Hanover, Henrico, Charles City, New Kent, & James City Counties.
- notes: One of five petitions presented to the House on December 28, 1818, requesting that the petitioners be incorporated into a company that was authorized to improve navigation on the Chickahominy; the Assembly assented to the request for a charter (Chap. XLVI of Acts of December 1818 Assembly), and asked the Board of Public Works have an engineer survey the river to determine the most effectual means for such improvements (Resolution No. 1 in of Acts of December 1818 Assembly).
Sheet lacks colophon; as river was eastern boundary of Henrico County, and that residents of Richmond were among the petitioners, this item evidently issued in capital; however, with several presses then in operation there, the one issuing this broadside cannot be determined without further evidence, so the indeterminacy here.
