  Cover letter: "Richmond, January 20th, 1819. Sir, Impressed with the importance of obtaining exact information respecting the soil and course of husbandry in different parts of our country, "The Society of Virginia for promoting Agriculture," at their meeting in December, 1818, passed the enclosed resolution. We trust you will concur with them in the opinion, that the interests of Agriculture will be greatly advanced by a general knowledge of the pacts which this resolution is intended to collect. … We are very respectfully, Sir, Your humble Servants, W.C. Nicholas, Chairman, C. of C. …"
  Enclosure: "Resolved, That the Committee of Correspondence be instructed to address a letter to [blank] gentlemen in each of the senatorial districts in this state, in the name and on behalf of this Society, requesting them to communicate to this Society ... full information of the present state of agriculture in their respective districts ... By order of the Society. John Adams, Secretary. Richmond, December 1818."
  Both sheets lack a colophon; dateline suggests a Richmond origin, but multiplicity of presses there makes an attribution to any one of them impracticable without more evidence, so the indeterminacy reported here.
