- notes: No copy known extant; Thomas Ritchie, the public printer, was ordered on December 6, 1819, to print 250 copies of this report and the accompanying documents for the use of the Assembly, so the attribution here to the partnership then conducting Ritchie's press.
Manuscript original (in the state archives) shows that six document-sets were printed with Preston's letter: enclosure "A" contained correspondence from the adjutant-general's office (Claiborne W. Gooch) concerning the state's armament; enclosure "B" contained like letters regarding operation of the new Lexington Arsenal; enclosure "C" contained an accounting of the operation of the state penitentiary; enclosure "D" contained an accounting of the work being done on the Capitol Square; enclosure "E" contained a report on the condition of the Bank of the Valley in Virginia; and enclosure "F" contained a like report for North Western Bank of Virginia. It is unclear whether two other letters from Gooch in the archive file were part of the imprint, as they covered small matters not addressed in the cover letter.
