- notes: Under cover of a letter dated November 1, 1819, Goldsborough transmitted "An act for settling the western limits of this State, and the dividing line and boundary between this State and the Commonwealth of Virginia" passed by the last Maryland General Assembly (No. 206 enacted February 19, 1819); Maryland asked for a joint commission to establish the border between the states from the Potomac River north to the Pennsylvania line (today the eastern boundary of Preston County, West Virginia). Upon receipt, the request was sent to a committee that then reported a bill that was debated, amended, and passed by the House; However, the Senate failed to concur, and so the issue went unresolved.
This disagreement was not resolved until border was set by a Federal commission in 1910.
Thomas Ritchie, the public printer, was ordered on December 16, 1819, to print 250 copies of this communication for use of the Assembly, so the attributions here to the partnership then conducting Ritchie's press. Title not recorded by Shaw & Shoemaker, so not filmed by Early American Imprints Series; digital imagery of the Library of Congress copy is available through the web site of the Internet Archive.
