• notes: Copyright statement on verso of title page reports that such was granted to Thomas Ritchie & Co. on November 13, 1820. Taylor's surrender of his claim to copyright is consistent with practice evinced in the publication of his Arator essays; then he gave those rights to printer-publisher John M. Carter, apparently as compensation for Carter's speculation in the work's success. It is unclear just who Ritchie's partners were here (i.e. "& Company"); in late 1820, Ritchie held an interest in the firm of Trueheart, Cary, & Co., who printed the Richmond Enquirer for him and who owned the Richmond Compiler, while also a partner to Claiborne Gooch in the Enquirer itself; it is possible that all three (Daniel Trueheart, Samuel Cary, and Gooch) were the unnamed partners in this copyright, but the possibility of others having an interest cannot be excluded, so the attribution here to only the persons named in the work.
