Publisher of Elements of the Jewish Faith (1817) through the Richmond press of William Waller Gray (193).
Cohen's identity is unknown. No one with that surname was listed in the 1819 Richmond city directory, nor does that name appear in the nineteenth-century histories of Richmond's Jewish community. Moreover, the only Cohen family recorded in the 1820 federal census in Virginia was a female-headed plantation-household in Chesterfield County. So this Cohen was probably a transient figure, possibly even related to the imprint's non-resident author, Samuel Jacob Cohen of Philadelphia. The use of the initial "H" suggests that his given name was Haym (Chaim), but absent further evidence, a clear identification is impossible.
