- notes: With issue of September 4, 1819, McGlassin retired Foster's original title in favor of the geographically-identifiable one seen here; the weekly retained this name, in effect, until it ceased publication in March 1862. In April 1820, McGlassin bought the competing weekly of Joseph Caldwell (073), the Herald of the Valley, and merged it into his own journal, seemingly in order to pull local Republican readers together into a single audience during that election year; that merger was followed by an intensive advertising campaign seeking new subscribers for the enlarged Republican.
