Two Acts Regulating Trade and Immigration.
- imprint_number: 1783.019
- title: An act to authorize the Congress of the United States to adopt certain regulations respecting the British trade.
- sequence_number: 19
- year: 1783
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Dunlap & Hayes
- author: Virginia. General Assembly.
- notes: Two laws enacted by the Assembly of October 1783 printed recto and verso of a single sheet. Recto side provides title for this imprint, later reprinted as Chap. V of Acts of October 1783 in Hening's Statutes (XI: 313-314). Verso carries "An act for the admission of emigrants, and declaring their rights to citizenship," later reprinted as Chap. VIII of Acts of October 1783 in Hening's Statutes (XI: 316).
Sheet lacks printer credit; Dunlap and Hayes began work in Richmond in December 1781 as Virginia's public printers; they held the position until May 1786 with Hayes the sole resident proprietor. Hence both Swem and Evans report this item as a Hayes imprint, while the sinecure was held by the firm of Dunlap & Hayes, so the formal publisher of record.
Evans dated this title to 1784; Swem dated to 1783 based on record in Assembly journals.
