Bishop was a bookseller and stationer in Alexandria between 1799 to 1803 who specialized in London imprints and American reprintings of such; this title was his own reprinting of a Melmoth title from the 1740s with additional remarks targeting Thomas Paine's Age of Reason (1795) by Soame Jenyn, William Paley, and Robert Hall.
