- notes: Evidently part of the first annual report of the Board of Public Works, submitted to the General Assembly in November 1816; founded by the previous Assembly, the Board's initial inquiries involved the connection of the James River to the Kanawha River that was the then responsibility of the James River Company (chartered 1785), who the Board pressed on the subject earlier in the year (see 1816.045); this report was originally compiled by the six men assigned the task in early 1814 – John Marshall, James Breckenridge, William Lewis, James M’Dowell, William Caruthers, Andrew Alexander – who sign the document at end of text. The report was later reprinted as Part 1 of a Collection of Laws and Resolutions relating to Board of Public Works (1819.000).
Title lacks imprint; printing such items was a responsibility of the public printer, then Thomas Ritchie, so the attribution here to the partnership conducting his press at this time.
