Exhibition

Homefront to Frontline: Virginia’s WWII Story is a special exhibition and online portal commemorating the 80th anniversary of World War II. It explores the personal stories, sacrifices, and contributions of Virginians during one of the most pivotal events of the 20th century. Through archival materials, photographs, letters, and documents, we bring to life the experiences of those who served in the three branches of the military as well as those who supported the war effort at home.

Homefront to Frontline: Virginia’s WWII Story is on display from November 13, 2024 through October 2025. The physical display is located on the East side of the Library of Virginia lobby. It features four display cases highlighting the stories of Virginians in WWII. Two monitors are also used to show portraits of individual veterans. Additional display elements will be incorporated throughout the year. Exhibit case content will be rotated in April 2025. Check back often to view all elements of this special lobby exhibition!

Similarly, the digitization of WWII collections is ongoing. Several digital collections will be made available as they are scanned and processed. Look for frequent updates to this website as newly digitized WWII collections become available as part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of World War II.

Join us in honoring the legacy of those who served by exploring the WWII collections and helping preserve history for future generations.
